Naone and the Surrounding Area

Scenes from a Colorful Autumn Day

The Naone forest clearing lies at an elevation of about 1,000 meters above the valley landscapes of the Outer Judicarian region, a part of Trentino in northern Italy. Roughly speaking, we are north of Lake Garda, south of the Brenta Dolomites, east of the Adamello Range, and west of the Sarca Valley.
Quiet and almost idyllic, the small villages are scattered throughout this area, which remains rural to this day, away from the main tourist attractions.

By “Valle della Luce,” or Valley of Light, Heinz Grill primarily refers to the Sarca Valley. The Sarca River, however, which flows into Lake Garda from the north, draws its water from the streams of the Brenta Massif and the meltwater of the Adamello glaciers. Deeply carved into the landscape, the river winds its way through our inner valley before emerging through a gorge into the actual Sarca Valley, which bears its name. “Valle della Luce”—indeed, the light here in Naone is of a particularly enchanting quality.

For a recently designed poster, Heinz Grill added the themes of sports, meditation, and peace to the Sarca Valley. In fact, the area offers outstanding opportunities for a wide variety of activities, not least among them the numerous rhythmic climbing routes pioneered by Heinz Grill. The dedication to meditation and peace may seem unusual, yet it shines forth as a broad and compelling ideal. The studies at the Free University for Spirituality and Lundo, as well as the personal work of Heinz Grill and those associated with him, strive toward practical realization.
These photographs of Naone and the surrounding area were taken in wonderfully clear autumn light and amid a very calm, almost peaceful atmosphere in nature.
